Appointment of Shad Steadman to UGA's Terry College of Business Alumni Board of Directors

Athens, Ga. – George A. Steadman (Shad) is a new member of the Alumni Board of Directors at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. He is one of nine new members to join the 60-member alumni board. He was appointed to a three-year term of service on the board that began July 1, 2011.

 
Steadman has been a prominent leader in the insurance industry and business community for more than 35 years. He joined Rutherfoord, a Marsh & McLennan Agency Company headquartered in Virginia in 1986 and serves as the Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer. He is also President of Assurance Capital Consultants, Inc., a subsidiary responsible for alternative market and MGA programs.
 
A graduate of the University of Georgia with a major in Risk Management and Insurance, Steadman has attained the CPCU designation. He is active in the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, where he served as their 2008 National Chairman and is a former Chairman of CouncilPAC, an industry political action committee. He also serves as a director for the Foundation for Agency Management Excellence. Steadman is also an elected member of the Board of Directors of AICPCU and the World Federation of Insurance Intermediaries. He has served as a member of the Board of Managers for Assurex Global Re.
 
In addition to his professional affiliation, Steadman is an active community volunteer. He has served as an executive committee member and treasurer of the Taubman Museum of Art and as a director for the Roanoke City Public School Education Foundation. Previously, he has held board positions for the Roanoke Regional Chamber of commerce, Science Museum of Western Virginia, Opera Roanoke and the Better Business Bureau.
 
The Alumni Board of Directors serves in an advisory capacity to the dean and faculty of the Terry College of Business. The board also promotes and supports the College’s programs and activities in order to cultivate and encourage an ongoing affiliation between the college and its former students.
 
Founded in 1912 as the School of Commerce, the Terry College of Business is the flagship business school in the state of Georgia and one of 16 schools and colleges at the oldest state-chartered university in the country.
